Historian's log (a new addition)A sequential account provided by the troop historian of the campouts and activities of the troop. accounts listed in most recent first order. Walnut point state park Walnut point was a very fun and relaxing campout. We chopped wood, dug for worms to go fishing, gathered firewood, cooked with dutch ovens, played games in the dark, and then went to bed in tents. By Chris F.
Blue Springs Cave Trip December 8-9, 2007 The troop made its annual pilgrimage to the Blue Springs Caverns and crawled through the tunnels, checked out the fabulous formations, got muddy to the core and slept underground! This remains a yearly favorite for all.
Marshmellow Blow Gun Campout Nov. 10 - 11, 2007 Get your PVC pipe and fittings ready. Load up on those mini marshmellows. AIM and fire away. It's a camput, it's a target shoot, it's capture the flag. We invite the Webelos! It's fun for all. We stayed at the camp near Allerton State Park and stay in cabins. The cooking is in an actual kitchen. Evening entertainment is popcorn and movies, and star gazing. Space Jamboree - Camp Drake Oct. 5 - 7, 2007 Rockets! Segways! Robots! and we got to talk realtime with the International Space Station. Exciting. Everyone earned their Space Exploration and Radio Merit badges. We got to try out the ham radios. We had a video linkup with NASA and learned how to plan a mission to Mars. The best part was talking with the astronauts in the ISS!
Shades State Park Canoe Trip Sept. 14-16, 2007 It was a warm and beautifly day when we went camping at Shades State Park and went canoeing. The water wasn't too fast so we had a good time. We had to canoe upstream to pick up a shirt that we forgot. Some of us went kayaking.
Yellowstone National Park and Grand Tetons National Park June 29 - July 11, 2007 10 Scouts (and 1 guest) as well as 6 adults travelled to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons for 10 days of hiking, swimming and adventure. We saw Old Faithful erupt. We saw deer, elk, bison, microbears, black bears and cubs, moose and other wildlife. We went rowing and boating. We got caught in a snow storm. It was an amazing time!
Summer Camp - Camp Drake July 8 - 14, 2007 15 Scouts (and half a dozen adults at various times) attended the 75th anniversary of Camp Drake and took part in all the fun activities. We shot guns, shot arrows, swam, hiked, and cooked s'mores while earning lots and lots of merit badges. The Yellowstone group met us at camp on family night and we all shared the fun we've been having the past couple weeks. Three of our scouts got tapped out for the order of the arrow, and one of our parents!!
Day Hike Turkey Run state park (6/9/07) Preparation hike for the Yellowstone trip. There were wonderful trails, some of them through water!! We took 3 separate trails with a lunch break. Mr. K just had knee surgery and did a great job keeping up with all of us. It was really beautiful.
Michigan Trip June 2 and 3rd, 2007 Our first stop was the sand dunes. Once we got there we had first started to eat after we ate we could do two things. Play in lake Michigan or slide the sand dunes. Sand dunes are created by the tides blowing the sand and getting caught by dune grasses. Dunes are not a permanent structure. Our destination-- we went to Muskegon, Michigan to sleep on a coast guard cutter. It was hard to sleep because of all the noise. We also took a tour on a submarine. Adults slept in officer quarters and children slept in the crew area. There was also a dining area where we had snack and played games. We also enjoyed the gift shop. Thank you to all the adults for driving us and patrolling the boats at nights. Parents got up during their sleep and watched over us and kept us safe.

Indy 500 (May 19-20, 2007) It took a long time to get to the Indy 500. When we finally got there, we got out of our cars and headed towards the race track. While we were heading towards the track, we could here the race cars speeding by. First we went to the pit stops. At the pit stops they were testing tires. They put the tires on the race cars and the cars would go a few laps to see if the tires were good. We got to see where the gas is stored and how the tires were stacked. The tires were stacked over 5 feet high! We got to talk to the people who worked in the pit stop as well. Next, inside the track, we went to a location where the Army had set up games, rides, tanks and helicopters. We spent most of our time there. We were able to get inside a tank. It was amazing how cramped it is inside the tank. We got to speak to an Army representative. He explained how the tank works. When we were finished at the Army location, we went back to our vehicles. ate lunch, and then returned to the race track. This time we watched the cars do their time trials. The cars were going approximately 200 mph. They were EXTREMELY loud when they went by us. Next we went to the Indy 500 Museum located at the race track. It was all about the Indy 500. There were a whole bunch of race cars, a mini theatre and a gift shop. We saw a movie in the theatre that told the history of the Indy 500. We got to see the very first car to race the Indy 500. It was like a blank oval with wheels and a steering wheel. It had stripes, but no advertisements. After the museum we returned to our cars and towards the hotel where we unpacked our bags. After we unpacked we headed towards the mall. That’s where we ate dinner. There were a number of choices of places to eat. We each got to pick where we wanted to eat. After we ate, we spent the rest of our time at the arcade. When the mall closed we headed back to the hotel to have a good night’s sleep before our return home the next day. Connor
5-6-07 May day May Day was held May 6th, 2007 at Lake Of the Woods Pavilion in Mahomet, Illinois. It was a fun filled day with games, prizes and food. Games included a sack race, box race and bingo. A thank you to our troop members for making this day fun for the girl scouts and cub scouts. Josh
